We had an adventurous week! We started .learning about the thousand's place and all 4 forms to write numbers: standard, model, word, and expanded forms. We did "Pizza" expanded form to learn how to write the value of each place value. We studied author's purpose in reading while studying the book "Henry & Mudge." We played memory games with our vocabulary words. In science, we are learning how to think like scientists. We did a science experiment exploring what happens when you combine vinegar and baking soda. They looked so cute in their goggles!
We loved the short week, but man did we have so much to fit in! The theme this week was Fast and Furious! We learned about compare & contrast using Venn diagrams in reading and subtraction in math. We learned new mental ways to think about how to subtract numbers in our heads. It was interesting to see which way every student thought was the easiest. We learned how to write letters in writer's workshop and wrote letters to the principal. Today we talked about Patriot Day and several students wore patriotic colors. We took some time around the flag and had a moment of silence to remember this tragic day in history. We focused on how even in tragedy, good can come from it. Our country United that day and many people stepped up to help people in need.
Wow! I can't believe we finished our second week of second grade! We took our first tests, learned Read to Someone, Word Work, how to be a good citizen, and so much more! We finished our week with art activity and a dance party! Enjoy your 3 day weekend!
